Ready for a jolt on the DevOps market? I’ve got some great news to share with you all: CloudBees has acquired Electric Cloud!

Electric Cloud is known for two market-leading products: ElectricFlow and ElectricAccelerator . ElectricFlow is the leader in application release orchestration/continuous delivery release automation (ARO/CDRA based on the analysts' conventions) and is highly praised by both Forrester1 and Gartner2 (see below). ElectricAccelerator makes it possible to hugely speed up build times of large codebases, which makes it a particularly loved product in the embedded software space (compiling Linux or Android) or the gaming industry. Electric Cloud has over 100 employees, distributed around the world, and two main offices, San Jose (California, USA) and Odessa (Ukraine). I'd like to welcome to the Electric Cloud team to the Hive!

Electric Cloud and CloudBees are very complementary. Together, thanks to Jenkins (the undisputed CI leader), Jenkins X (the CI/CD leader on Kubernetes), CloudBees CodeShip (the leading CI/CD SaaS), ElectricFlow (the CDRA leader) and the CloudBees offerings (CloudBees Core , CloudBees DevOptics ), we truly are the DevOps Powerhouse! No company gets anywhere close to CloudBees in terms of the breadth and depth of our software delivery capabilities, from CI to CD, from classic applications to cloud-native applications, from cloud to on-premise environments, we can help any organization through their digital transformation, wherever they want to start, wherever they want to go and support any software delivery, for any application, anywhere. This is truly unique!

How does this all fit in our vision? Earlier this week, Christina Noren, CloudBees Chief Product Officer, blogged about our view of the future and the need for a new category, Software Delivery Management (SDM) . SDM is about raising software to an actual practice. Organizations have dozen and dozen of tools, spread among dozen or hundreds of teams, and no cohesive view as to what their software world really is, what is the impact they are having thanks to software, and how can they improve. To use a biological analogy, software practices need to move from a world where hundreds or thousands of fragmented and independent "unicellular" cells self-organize based on what they think is right locally, to an actual unified system, one that is able to apprehend the overall complexity of the entire system, and, essentially, for the left hand to coordinate with the right hand. This is the natural evolution of software. Our customers who are the most advanced in their digital transformation see it every day: they have invested a lot in software, in adopting new processes, in training teams, but now they see the obvious: unless they are able to manage their software delivery as a unified practice, with shared data, common processes, collaboration and end-to-end visibility, they won't really get the value of their investment. SDM is a critical step in their journey. The acquisition of Electric Cloud reinforces CloudBees continuous delivery capabilities, but, as importantly, hugely accelerates our SDM journey!

This acquisition also shows that the DevOps world is going through an amazing acceleration and maturation and that consolidation is a logical consequence of this. CloudBees is part of a few companies that are leading the pace forward and redefining the way software gets built and shipped. And having such an impact is what motivates all of us at CloudBees and I know we share the same passion with the team at Electric Cloud! So let's go and let's do it!

If you are around today in San Francisco, come to see us at the CloudBees Days this morning, otherwise, you can watch the event live as well!

Onward,

Sacha
